^^ False... ish. Since the 17 is the full size framed model, compact and subcompact frames (for example the 19 and 26) mags will fit and interface properly, but you will have to remove the floor plate since the mag is shorter that the frame.
You don't really want that.
Stick with 17 frame sized mags or the 50 round extended mags.
The inverse is also true, longer mags will fit the smaller frames, but in this case will act as mini-extended mags.
