Totally agreed there. TM guns are designed to operated stock as per ASGK agreements. And they're not designed to handle higher velocities, so any upgrading will require some serious internal work.

Now back to my question. How many people here in Canada actually play with stock TM AEGs? As far as I can tell from people here on ASC, not too many. All are upgraded with high performance internals, metal bodies, etc. That makes the gun they actually field less TM than the other brands of replacement parts. So really, whether you start that process with a TM or a JG is irrelevant. Considering the JG is about 1/2 the price of TM, to me it makes no sense to go the TM route.

As for reliability, I've had 2 brand new TM guns so far, and they've both failed miserably out of the box. My stock M4A1 snacked on its own gears in about a week of plinking at home. I replaced the gears, got about 200 rounds out of it before the mechbox cracked. Not exactly what I'd call reliable. And my P226 failed on mag #5. The replacement I got for this defective P226 didn't fare a whole lot better. However, my 2 STOCK JG guns have seen thousands of rounds (going on 15 000 with my MP5) and work flawlessly.
